What should a good dental consultation include?
A practical checklist for listening, examination, findings, alternatives, written scope, costs, consent, and the right to pause.

The clinic should listen before presenting
You should have room to explain your goals, concerns, dental history, health information, and previous experiences. The response should connect to what you shared rather than move immediately into a package.
The dentist should show the basis for the plan
Ask the dentist to show the relevant finding on an examination, image, or record and explain it in plain language. Ask what alternatives are reasonable, what could happen if you wait, and which parts remain uncertain.
You should leave with something you can review
For major treatment, request a written plan that identifies the scope, stages, responsible clinicians, possible additional costs, follow-up, and important consent information. You may take time, request records, bring a family member, or seek another opinion.
